Total contract value: EUR 180 millionBeyond the leadership of VAI a European consortium establishes a newblast furnace with a total value of more than EUR 180 million(portion of VAI: approximately EUR 120 million) for the leadingBrazilian steel producer Companhia Siderùrgica de Tubarao and thusnow also emphasises its global leading position in the field of ironand steelmaking in Brazil.
Order intake up by plus 88 percent in the first quarterAs a result of the good iron and steel industry market development,VAI could increase the order intake by 88 percent in the firstquarter to EUR 454 million compared to the same figure of thepreceding year. Sales rose by 34 percent to EUR 253 million andthere was also an increase in the operating result (EBIT) to EUR 12.1million.In the period from January to March 2004 the world steel productionrose by 8.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.The production in China increased by 26.4 percent, in the othercountries it incremented by 3.9 percent.
