Former stay-at-home mom Steffi Czerny made a name for herself hosting yearly networking events attended by the crème de la crème of the digital world. And now it’s that time of year again: On Sunday, the founder and manager of DLD Media will open the 13th Digital Life Design conference in Munich.
A total of 150 international digital luminaries, including Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella, DeepMind boss Demis Hassabis, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and neuroscientist Wolf Singer, to name a few, will speak during the three-day DLD17 conference whose motto is “… what’s the plan?”
“At DLD17, we want to discuss the massive changes of our times: artificial intelligence, robots, virtual reality, chatbots - our economy and everyday life are just being redesigned along these lines,” Ms. Czerny told Bavarian news organization MedienNetzwerk Bayern.
In 1995, back when the internet was still a novelty, the then 40-year old mother of four met publisher Hubert Burda on a ski trip and started working for the media mogul soon afterwards. Ten years later, Ms. Czerny founded DLD.
But the international conference is about more than chatting. “At DLD17, we will address solutions, attitudes, scientific knowledge and ideas. Only when we understand what is coming can we actively shape the new world,” Ms. Czerny said. That’s what draws scientists, politicians and artists to come and meet with the digital entrepreneurs.
Networking is the distinctive feature of Ms. Czerny’s conferences. “Organizing a conference is just like a successful cocktail party, it’s all about the right blend,” she told Handelsblatt reporters.
