Yuan Chang and Patrick Moore Scientist Pair Wins Prize for Research

Scientists Yuan Chang and Patrick Moore have won the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter prize for identifying viruses that lead to the development of tumors.

Scientists Yuan Chang and Patrick Moore have been awarded the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter prize for tumor research.

A married couple, Ms. Chang and Mr. Moore run the Chang-Moore Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. They received the award for identifying two new viruses that lead to the development of tumors.

The Paul Ehrlichand Ludwig Darmstaedter Award is one Germany's most prestigious honors for scientific achievement. It will be presented on March 14 in Frankfurt and includes a €120,000 prize.

In explaining their decision, the jurors called Ms. Chang and Mr. Moore's discovery a “significant contribution to cancer research.”
