Exclusive Exclusive: Airbus Defense Electronics Draws Two €1.3-Billion Bids from Private Equity Investors

Airbus, one of Germany’s largest defense companies, is likely to sell its defense electronics division to an investment firm, Handelsblatt has learned. Private equity companies Carlyle and KKR each bid €1.3 billion for the division, €300 million more than German competitor Rheinmetall offered, people familiar with the negotiations told Handelsblatt. Only Carlyle and KKR will be included in the final round of the negotiations, according to the source. The German government has signaled it is willing to approve a deal but wants the investors to commit to keeping jobs and key technologies in Germany.
