Exclusive Exclusive: BASF CEO Open to Takeovers If Price Is Right

Chemicals company BASF is focusing on growth within its current structure and is also willing to make major acquisitions, chief executive Kurt Bock told Handelsblatt in an interview. BASF is willing to make a buy if there was a good deal in sight, although the company would still be bound by its strict yield requirements. “We look at a lot of things but we also calculate very carefully,” Mr. Bock said. BASF aims to grow faster than the sector which is currently expanding by 3.5 percent. According to Mr. Bock, BASF isn’t affected by the merger plans of its competitors Dow Chemical and Dupont and he said he saw no reason for the company to question its strategy.
