Exclusive Exclusive: Bayer Crop Science Planning Wheat Research, New Acquisitions for Growth

Bayer, the German chemicals giant, is planning on expanding its agrochemicals business, Liam Condon, head of Bayer Crop Science, told Handelsblatt. The company is banking on its own research, but is also considers acquisitions, Mr. Condon said. “If there is an opportunity for external reinforcement we’ll surely look into it,” he said. In its seeds division, Bayer is particularly hopeful about the possibility of developing new wheat varieties in the lab, according to Mr. Condon. New seeds would yield higher returns and be more resistant to climate change.
