Exclusive Monsanto Rejects Bayer's Latest Offer

American agrochemical giant Monsanto has called Bayer’s latest bid “financially inadequate.” The world’s largest producer of seeds and pesticides said, however, it remains open to talks with Germany’s Bayer, which launched a takeover bid for Monsanto in May. After Bayer’s first bid for Monsanto, based on $122 per share, was rejected, the Leverkusen-based company jacked its offer up to $125 per share in July. On Tuesday, Monsanto announced that the previous bid was “insufficient to ensure deal certainty.” Bayer’s latest bid put Monsanto’s value at $64 billion and, if accepted, would have been the largest ever German takeover.
