B. Braun’s  success story began in 1839, when Julius Wilhelm Braun acquired the Rose Pharmacy in Melsungen. In 1908, B. Braun started to produce the first sterile and absorbable suture material, manufactured from sheep intestines (called Catgut). In the 50s and 60s, B. Braun became a leading innovator in infusion therapy, famous even today as creator of the “Braunüle”. Due to strong international expansion in the next decades, B. Braun grew into a global health care company. Today the B. Braun Group employs more than 58,000 employees in 64 countries. In 2016, the Group generated sales of €6.5 billion.

The target customers are hospitals, medical practices, pharmacies, and care and emergency services. The product spectrum ranges from infusion solutions, injection pumps and accessories for infusion therapy, intensive medicine and anesthesia to surgical instruments, sterile containers and sutures, hip and knee endoprostheses, power systems and accessories for extra corporeal blood treatment and products for wound care. The complete range encompasses more than 5,000 different products, 95 percent of which are manufactured by the company. In addition, the company offers consulting services, for example helping hospitals to optimize their processes and assure quality, or preparing patients and their families for homecare, handling all the formalities for them, supporting them in the transition period and ensuring that they receive qualified care.

Braun performs financial and organisational support in art-, cultural- and sports-projects, it is partner in Private Public Partnerships and assisted universities, doctors and students through studentships or in orientation of scientific events. Since 2003, within the initiative “B. Braun for children”, every B. Braun company has promoted a project for children that helps to secure the future and improve the living conditions of the next generation. In 2016, B. Braun supported a total of 177 social projects in 34 countries.
